It was an RAF two-pronged attack at the top of the standings in Round 6 of the SB Sports Injuries Series as Luke Pollard and Dan Watts made it a 1-2 in the Hafren CC 10. Pollard’s first time trial of the season demonstrated tremendous form the off as he blazed around the Welshpool – Four Crosses course in 20 minutes 52 seconds. The super smooth course not only scored a big personal best for Pollard, it also transferred household bragging rights, with father Ian also making the Top 10 in 23:04. Luke explained: “Super happy with the night’s performance – a great start. I even managed to beat my Dad’s 1980’s personal best… just“!

Meanwhile after being beaten by another RAF rider Ryan Morley in a recent 25 Dan Watts was left with a feeling of déjà vu after taking runner-up spot again with an excellent 21:26. Watts elevated himself to the runner-up spot in the Overall standings too thanks to this ride and now has the hosting club’s Bryn Davies, the Series leader in his sights. Watts, tongue-in-cheek commented: “A top ride by Luke. I was really pleased with my time, moving up in the overall is a bonus too. I should probably stop bringing teammates along to time trials as they always seem to beat me – first Ryan and now Luke“!

Davies had home advantage on this course finished third on the night and knew he’d been in a race after finishing 17 seconds down on Watts. Davies finished the same margin down in the Veteran’s Series though one place higher with a fine +4:30. He stretched his lead at the top of the Veteran’s Series to 16 points after Nova Raiders’ Scott Harris was pushed to 5th on the night in +4:06 behind Stuart Proctor (+4:21) and Gary Duncan (+4:13). Davies commented: “A great night’s racing and fast time’s by Luke and Dan meant I had to settle for 3rd spot, but I can’t complain considering the level of competition. Thanks to Hafren CC and all involved“.

But the rider taking the Veteran’s win surprised himself with his form in his first time trial of the year as Mid Shropshire Wheelers’ Andy Hazell stopped the watch on +4:47. Hazell is usually a good bet for a high placing in the Veteran’s and here he showed despite racing rustiness he had maintained his form. He stated: “I was surprised and pleased with the Veterans win as this was my first time trial of the season. A bit tough back from the turn, but a good night“.

It was another first sighting in the Women’s too that sealed the victory with Hafren’s Rebecca Richardson heading up a good turn out of seven Women’s by over a minute – on a road bike. Richardson was surprised to win by 1:04 with a fine effort of 24:54 and dedicated her win to her coach, stating: “I wasn’t expecting the win on my   Road bike! Working with my coach, Paul Kempster, has been key to my improvements this year. Thank you to Hafren CC and everyone who volunteered“.

And it was another rarely seen rider who took the runners-up spot too with Paramount’s Ceris Eslava putting in a shift to finish in 25:58, relegating Women’s Series leader Jenny Newton to third on the night. Eslava commented: “I was pleased with my result as it was only my second solo time trial of the season. Congratulations to everyone else, and a big thanks to Hafren CC and all other helpers”. Despite this Newton stretched her lead at the top of the Women’s standings to 18 points and will be hoping home advantage helps in Round 7 at Cherrington.
