After feeling under the weather for Round 1 of the SB Sports Injuries Series Bryn Davies made the most of the glorious weather to power to a fabulous win in Round 2. The Hafren CC rider was the only competitor on a 21 minute mark from a field of 38 in the second SCCA Spring 10 held on the Waters Upton – Hodnet course. With a huge roar Davies hurled himself across the finish line in 21 minutes 35 seconds to close the gap on Series leader Victor Chetta to two points – as well as extending his lead at the top of the Veteran’s Series thanks to a winning +4:50.

Davies commented: “It was great to be back on form and to winning ways after shaking off a bug and the cobwebs from the previous week. Great weather and turnout, it was pleasing to see a good show for Hafren with strong performances in every category“.

Round 1’s winner Chetta was concerned about a mystifying loss of his cutting edge form despite claiming the runner-up spot in 22:09, 25 seconds off his Round 1 effort. However the problem now appears to be solved as he revealed: “A loss of power output recently has taken the edge off my speed. However I’ve pinpointed cause of problem now back fighting fit for the Mid Shropshire Wheelers 25 on Sunday“.

Chetta was nine seconds ahead of SCCA Private Member Dan Watts, who was complementary about Davies’ fine show of form, stating: “A top ride by Bryn. I rode a steady out leg and returned strong. I’m happy with the result and the time considering it’s only the second time I’ve ridden the time trial bike in 6 months“.

With Davies taking the Veteran’s victory his closest competition came from Nova Raiders’ Scott Harris in his second runner-up sot in two weeks. Harris recorded a fine +4:01, 8 seconds ahead of Paramount’s Gary Duncan. He commented: “My race went well. I took advantage of the tailwind on the way out and just kept pushing on the return leg. Happy to bag some points“.

In the Women’s Championship Revolutions Racing’s Pauline Hughes put in a big shift from the very front of the field. With Women’s runner-up Hollie Owens off a minute behind Hughes dug deep to turn the tables on the 15 year-old who had got the better of her in Round 1. Hughes posted an excellent 25:31, 9 seconds ahead of Owens and the pair now tie for the Women’s Series lead. Hughes stated: “I was pleasantly surprised with my time – 30 seconds faster than last week! I think I paced it well. Great weather and an enjoyable day. Thanks to all involved“.

In the Junior Series there’s a new name to conjure with as Hafren CC’s Tyler Brennan made it two wins on the trot to take the maximum 40 points on offer. The 17 year-old put in a fabulous effort of 23:09 – good enough for 9th spot overall, 15 seconds ahead of reigning Junior Champion Sam Morris. Brennan sounded an ominous warning for the coming rounds, stating: “I liked the course though it was quite rough. I don’t think I can make next one but I should be able to do the rest“.
