Tim Beardmore stretched his lead at the lead of both the Friction and Hydraulics Series and the Veteran’s standings too with a double win in Birkenhead North End CC’s 25. With uncertainty over the effect of shifting Covid-19 legislation on the County programme this is one of several events appended to the Series experimentally to ensure a full programme was available, and saw a rare running on the Prees – Tern Hill – Hodnet course as a result. Beardmore took his second Friction Series win thanks to a great effort of 54 minutes 7 seconds, stretching his lead over Henri Bedford who finished 44 seconds back.

Beardmore recorded a course personal best to take the win, although he wasn’t as happy with the course which includes a couple of significant drags to cope with: “This is the first time I’ve ridden this course for years and I’ve not missed it. The return leg is always tough back up the A41. I paced it well though and had the benefit of a couple of riders to catch to the line. I was really pleased with my time and also a course personal best – big thanks to Birkenhead CC for an excellently run event”. Beadmore also took a dominant win in the Veteran’s Championship with +13:36, 1:45 ahead of Bridgnorth CC team mate Jonathan Mills-Keeling in a great 1-2 for the club, moving them up to second place in the Top Club Award standings as a result.

Bedford continue to chase Beardmore but now lies 50 points off the Oversll Series lead – but continues to open up an almost unassailable margin at the head of the Friction Junior Series. Bedford’s 54:51 was 49 seconds ahead of Mills-Keeling on actual, whilst he has a 315 point lead in the Juniors. He was happy with his morning’s efforts, stating: “I am very pleased with my time and coming runner up to Tim. The course is a bit lumpy and has a few obstacles but my legs felt quite good. Great fun nonetheless – thanks to Birkenhead CC for hosting the event”.

Mills-Keeling elevated himself to third in the Overall standing thanks to his 55:40 effort, and consolidated his Veteran’s runner-up spot with +11:51, and was gaining his first experience of this once popular course, He commented: “A new course for me, I really enjoyed it  – thanks for organisers and marshals for putting on the event”.
