The reigning champions found themselves in an all-too familiar winning position in Round 2 of the Coaching Revolutions 2-Up Series as they headed for the top of the standings again. Hafren CC’s Bryn Davies and Pete Thomas shook off the cobwebs of a self-confessed lacklustre performance in Round 1 to bounce back to their normal high standards in the Revolutions Racing 10 on the Nesscliffe by-pass. This popular course always produces some fast times thanks to a super-smooth surface and despite a chilly morning Davies and Thomas still posted a fabulous effort of 21 minutes 25 seconds. Thomas commented: “We got it sorted this time after a poor performance by myself at Prees“. Davies added: “It was a good result for us bouncing back from a rusty first outing. A quick course with some equally quick and close times“.

Davies’ comment showed that things were tight at the top of the standings with a brand new pairing from the promoting club just 13 seconds off the pace in runner-up spot as Stuart Proctor and Andy Tamplin gelled well together with a fine effort of 21:38. Proctor was looking forward to that partnership putting pressure on the Hafren pair as they get used to each others styles revealing: “I felt good and strong into the slight headwind on the way out. A first time partnering with Andy, hopefully we’ll get even stronger in the coming rounds and try to give Bryn and Pete some proper competition! A fabulous, fresh morning on a great course“.

It was another first-time pairing who took the win in the Mixed Pair category too as Nova Raiders Charlotte Chapman and Andy Maxwell found their styles meshed well with a great time of 23:24 pushing Paramount’s more experienced Ceris Eslava and Gary Duncan out by 26 seconds. This is a competition Nova raiders seem to have taken to their hearts as Maxwell explained: “It was great to take a win in the ‘Mixed doubles’ and keep the Nova flag flying! Apart from the early cold start it was a great morning, I always find the 2-Ups fun. Charlotte and I worked really well together for our first 2-Up on a really nice smooth course“. Chapman added: “It was a really good experience for my first mixed 2-Up, a great partner and a fast course. Thanks to Revolutions Racing for getting up so early for us“!

But Charlotte wasn’t the only member of the Chapman family to taste maximum points as mother Jane and partner Jenny Newton took the 20 points on offer in the Women’s Series to head up the standings in this Championship – with a fastest ever ride as a pair. Chapman stated: “A personal best for myself and Jenny! Thank you to everyone from Revolutions Racing“. But Newton revealed they could have been faster but for an issue, adding: “I was relieved to get the winning points as we had to stop shortly into the race due to me! However we decided to carry on and still got a personal best, so that made up for the blip“!
