Jonathan Mills-Keeling headed to the top of the SB Sports Injuries Series after Round 5, Ludlow CC’s SB Brimfield 10, taking the Overall win in great conditions. Three days after Ludlow CC’s Friction Series event held on the same super-fast course, thankfully riders were faced with a normal level of light traffic for this quick return, with Mills-Keeling leading the field home in a great time of 21 minutes 18 seconds. Held entirely on the A9, riders enjoy a flying start on the 1.8 mile descent past Brimfield, with a fast and flat middle section before having to dig deep for the climb to the turn at Sheet island. This, however, proved not an issue to the Bridgnorth CC rider as he doubled up with a win in the SB Veterans Series to push his tally in that competition to 100 points – a perfect 5/5 score thanks to a fine +5:33 effort.
In both contests Mills-Keeling’s closest challenger was David Morris, recording 22:04 Actual and +4:32 respectively. Mills-Keeling reflected on his evening’s work well done, and despite atmospheric conditions not as favourable he still managed to better his ride of three days earlier by 22 seconds due to an uninterrupted run: “The SB10 was a much quieter time of day – slower conditions, but I had a much better ride – thanks again to Ludlow CC for putting on”.
Taking third spot Overall was Ludlow Brewery RT’s Jack Wilson, who had tired legs after riding the final Tour of Cambridgeshire at the weekend. Wilson stopped the watch on a good time of 22 minutes 18 seconds, seeing off Ludlow CC’s Robbie Disney for the final podium spot by 25 seconds. Wilson was happy enough with that, stating: “Good power for me after doing the Tour of Cambridgeshire at the weekend, but a slow night – top ride by Jonathan for the win”.
Third place in the Veterans went to another rider on a quick return to the south of the county as Rich Smith sliced 34 seconds off his Friction Series time to set a Veteran’s plus of +3:57, beating Wilson by nine seconds in this age-adjusted category. The Wrekinsport rider moved up to equal third in the SB Veterans Series on the strength of this ride; stating: “Better than Saturday’s effort on the same course! I was happy to be getting into the 23’s after a disrupted winter – a good, fun event”.
