Round 3 of the Mower Mec 2-Up Series saw Scott Palmer and Jonathan Mills-Keeling take a fine win in Hafren CC’s event promoted on the fast Berriew course. The Aerologic RT pair around the ‘out and back’ course in 21 minutes 2 seconds to move up into second place in the standings – although runners-up Peter Fletcher and Jack Young extended their Series lead to 14 points after taking runner-up spot. In what seems like almost obligatory windy conditions on this course in 2025, both had travelled some distance to take their second win from the two events they have entered, with Palmer explaining: “A three hour round trip for me, so I needed to make this count. I’ve struggled the last month with my power on the bike but it got to something more like it here. Racing with Jon is good as we are similar abilities, so to come in first again was pleasing – thanks to Hafren CC for putting on the event”. Mills-Keeling added: “I always like the course, but a cross-wind so not that fast, we missed doing a 20 by a few seconds. I worked well with Scott; it was fun – thanks for Hafren for putting it on”.

Fletcher and Young now have a 54 point tally after entering all three rounds, and took the runner-up spot in 22:46, 20 seconds ahead of the Hafren pairing of Mark Hill and Neil Vose. The Oswestry Paragon pairing enjoyed their short trip and worked well together, by now well aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses given quite an age difference. Fletcher stated: “We were all welcomed by another windy night! I guess it’s the same for everyone and you’ve just got to crack on. As usual, I started off and our minute efforts seemed to go OK, soon to hand over to young Jack. The whole ride was OK, apart from messing a couple of efforts up, but all’s well that ends well, and second on the evening felt like a good return for our toils. I would also like to take this opportunity to pay thanks to all the marshals, timekeepers and the organisers as a whole for what turned out to be a good night all round”. Young also had positive comments, adding: “It was good fun; I’m looking forward to the next – a great success”.

The Paramount pairing of Emma Brown and Liz Hagen made it another 20 points sealed in the Women’s Series, despite a slight slip to third in the Overall Series. They improved for the third straight race, having recorded 29:00 and 2801 previously the pair are evidently working better together after a slightly nervous start with 27:18. Brown commented: “Liz and I were again pleased with our results; we both put in equal efforts and enjoyed another great evening of 2-Up racing! We are definitely improving our 2-Up technique as the weeks go on too, which is good”. Hagen added: “A fun route on a very hot day! It was great to take another 20 points for the club, thanks to the organisers”.
