The Oswestry Paragon 10 saw Holohan Coaching rider David Griffiths take a dominant win in Round 14 of the Friction Hydraulics Series as he put a new bike to immediate good use. Griffiths clocked 19 minutes 24 seconds in the Four Crosses – Welshpool 10 riding a beautiful monocoque TriRig Omni bike specially imported from USA to make it two wins from the two events he has entered; but this bike seems to have given him even more of an edge after beating runner-up Mason Durant by 1:38. Griffiths is a four-time Scottish Team Time Trial and three-time Hill Climb Champion but is coming back from early season injury – on the strength of this performance he would appear to be fully recovered.

Durant posted an excellent effort of 21:02 to capture the runner-up spot ahead of Wrekinsport’s Tomos Hales, an showed his flexibility over distances long and short after winning Round 13, the Shropshire Championship 100. He commented: “It was a warm but quite windy night and I thought it might be tough going on the way back, so I tried to restrain myself to the turn. Like most seemed to, I got stuck behind traffic, which helped keep a lid on it. It wasn’t as breezy a return leg as I thought, but at least I had something in reserve for the final drag into the headwind up to the line. Congratulations to David for taking the win, and thanks to the organisers and cake providers”.

Hales took the final podium spot by just three seconds from Hafren CC’s Bryn Davies in 21:43, helping his club to claw back 15 points in a tight battle for the Top Club Award with Bridgnorth CC. Like Durant he also found the return leg tough, particularly in the final 200 metres where the course points skywards: “A headwind home made it a hard effort to the line, made even worst by the elevation to the finish. Amazingly organised by Oswestry Paragon as normal – thanks to all the marshals that helped out

As seems almost obligatory Deb Hutson-Lumb took the win in both the Veterans event as well as the Women’s; the former with a standard of +6:17, 1:17 ahead of Davies, the latter in 23:51, 2:33 ahead of event organiser Helen Tudor. Despite this Tudor still extended her lead at the top of the Women’s Series. Hutson-Lumb was pleased with her ride, stating: “Another great event, thanks Oswestry Paragon. I was very pleased to win County Women‘s and Veterans on another ‘it’s a bit breezy’ day”.

Chester Romei extended his lead in the Friction Junior Series to a massive 175 points as he cruised around the course in 24:05, taking 15th spot overall. He enjoyed his trip west, stating: “A great race and very well organised. My first race back after some time off due to injury, but I managed well and was pleased with the result, the only downside being held up at the roundabout, but apart from that great”!
