Two further medals were sealed in Round 13 of the SB Sports Injuries Series, the Bridgnorth CC 10 as Jonathan Mills-Keeling made an inroad into Tomos Hales’ SB Series lead. Held on the undulating Boningale – Shifnal course, the proximity to Wolverhampton of just eight miles saw a good contingent of Staffordshire riders in competition with a great turnout of 30 in the mix – and posting some fast times due to familiarity with the course, which drags to the turn on the edge of Shifnal.

Mills-Keeling took the win in 22 minutes 58 seconds, a time reflecting the tricky nature of this course which saw over a third of the Veterans fail to beat their standard; with his closest challenges coming from Stourbridge CC’s Dave Meacham in 23:07 and Wolverhampton Wheelers CC’s Richard Sadler a further seven seconds back. This narrowed the Aerologic rider’s gap to an absent Hales to 30 points, but with three rounds remaining one that Mills-Keeling feels may be a bridge too far: “Nice to take the win on the Bridgnorth round of the SB Series; an interesting course. I always liked the rolling sections; it makes a change from other courses. I narrowed the gap to Tomos but feel his lead might be too much”.

Mills-Keeling also took the win in the SB Veterans Series too with +3:53, and ahead of the same two Staffordshire riders who pushed him close with +3:50 and +3:43 respectively. This saw Mills-Keeling inch away from the rider lying in the Silver medal position by two points after Paramount’s John Westhead finished on +1:57.

The strength of Sadler was evident by him taking the overall Road Bike win in an adjusted 22:21 in this handicap competition, ahead of Rich Bradley of Albarosa CC in 23:53; but taking the County points was the rare sight at a time trial of Bridgnorth CC’s Sam Morris, who took the maximum 20 points on offer to the Shropshire riders in 24:19. Morris is more usually found in road races and cyclo-cross, but enjoyed his evening time trialling in the final club 10 of the 2025 season promoted by Bridgnorth CC: “It’s been good to get back into some trialling with the club 10’s on the road bike. My best ride of the year, so a nice way to come back to the SCCA Series and end the Bridgnorth Series”.

The introduction of a Road Bike category in both the Friction and SB Series has been one of the most eagerly contested, and being handicapped means there is plenty of interest from riders of all abilities. Gold and Silver were settled on the night after a great season-long head-to-head between Colin Wells and reigning SB Road Bike Champion Ashley Kirkham – with Wells winning his first cycling medal in 51 years. Encouraged by the Female Series winner; daughter Hayley to have a go, Wells has enjoyed being at the sharp end once again, as he explained: “When Hayley suggested doing the SB Series on a road bike at the start of the season, I thought I’ll give it a go. To get a Gold Medal is both, surprising but hugely pleasing, as the last one I won was when I raced 51 years ago! The races have been enjoyable to compete in, with a great friendly atmosphere. Good competition from Ash”. Kirkham added: “Congratulations to Colin on the Gold; thoroughly deserved. It was nice to have some competition this year, with some close results between the pair of us – thanks to all the organising teams”.

Two females went head-to-head with unattached rider Lauren Turley taking the win in 26:3 ahead of Bridgnorth CC’s Charlotte Hunt, making her first appearance in the SB Series and stopping the watch on 30:54. Turley is not a regular on the time trial scene as she explained: “The race was my first time trial in three years, having focused on triathlon. I had a simple aim to push myself; and not back off when it started to bite, particularly on the little undulations of that course – mission accomplished. Perhaps I’ll be back for more next season”! Hunt meanwhile seems to have got the time trialling bug and is already looking to break ‘evens’, stating: “I really enjoyed my race, the Bridgnorth guys were really friendly and welcoming and the course was great. I’d have liked to have paced a little better as I had a bit in the tank over the line. Looking forward to the next one and getting in 30”.

Two Wolverhampton Wheelers’ Juniors were also in competition, with Alex Wilkes registering 26:14; ahead of Rhys Everall in 27:44.
