Tim Beardmore took full advantage of misfortunes befalling the joint Series leaders of the Friction Hydraulics Series to take over at the head of the Overall standings to add to his Veterans Series lead following Round 6, the WCTTCA 50 – and finally take a much desired win in the process. With Victor Chetta out of action with a broken jaw following a horrible over-the-handlebar training accident and Henri Bedford suffering from a blow out so fierce it shredded his tyre mid event Beardmore headed to the top with a fabulous effort of 1 hour 53 minutes and 25 seconds as he regained the form he’s been struggling to find after a winter injury. With the longer distance attracting bonus points Beardmore took the maximum 70 on offer both Overall and in the Veterans thanks to a fabulous +24:48.

Beardmore was delighted with the double win on the Prees – Market Drayton – Shawbirch course, despite a little ‘episode’ due to in-progress road repairs, stating: “Finally the weather was good. I had slightly heavy legs from a hard week’s training so my power was down on what I was hoping. Consequently I went out a bit hard and found the last 15 miles really tough. Fresh chippings and road sweepers at Crudgington made for an interesting ride. Very pleased to take the win. Big thanks to the organisers and the support on route”.

Beardmore’s Bridgnorth CC team mate Jonathan Mills-Keeling gave the club extra reason to celebrate as he took Overall and Veteran’s runner-up spot – with the pair propelling the club into the same spot in the Top Club Award too as they shaved a chunk out of Nova Raiders’ lead. Mills-Keeling stopped the watch on 1:54:47 actual and +22:59 Veteran’s plus in what was a learning process as he coped with holding the time trial position for an unfamiliar length of time: “A great event, this is the first time I’ve rode my time trial bike for more then 90 minutes, thanks to everyone involved”.

Beardmore wasn’t the only rider on the comeback trail as 2017 and 2018 Friction Series winner Bryn Davies found himself amongst the big points again. Davies took third spot Overall in 1:57:08 but was his usual unassuming self as he made light of the accomplishment, stating: “I wasn’t expecting a Top 3 position, a few of the top riders missing were part of the reason for that. I’m still struggling to rediscover my previous form; it’s a work in progress! A top ride by Tim taking the win with a cracking time – thanks to all involved in hosting the event, I liked the course and good conditions for racing”.

Davies didn’t take the same spot in the Veteran’s Championship however, pushed out by just three seconds by Wrekisnport CC’s Rob Jackson, who set an excellent +20:15, with his actual of 2:01:30 good enough for 5th place and a big personal best to boot. A delighted Jackson stated: “I’m so pleased with a lifetime best for the distance in conditions that really suited me – many thanks to organisers, officials and marshals for putting on such a fantastic event”.
