We cannot run events without timekeepers from club events to County level Opens, they are a shrinking resource. We are looking for club timekeepers who would like to step up to cover Open Events; and people who don’t currently time keep but would like to learn. Tlmekeepers for Open Events are described by CTT as either Assistant or Principal. For club events things are more relaxed – anyone can have a go and advance to the Assistant list after sufficient training.
For any person to become an assistant timekeeper in an open, semi-open or association event, he/she must first be adopted by a District Committee. The Committee will wish to have some evidence of:
a. Satisfactory experience in timing club events.
b. Other satisfactory experience which will, together with the individual’s own ability, assure the Committee that the applicant is satisfactory.
c. The possession or availability of a suitably certified stopwatch or printout variant. The SCCA have sourced additional watches which can be used for training purposes
To time the finish of an Open Event you need to be a Principal timekeeper. For any person to be adopted as a principal timekeeper he/she:
a. must have at least one year’s experience as an Assistant timekeeper and have assisted a principal (e.g. shadowing, or as a recorder observing)
b. have been a timekeeper at the finish of an event and covered at least a 25 mile event or longer distance.
If you are interested in becoming a timekeeper the SCCA can arrange training. You can also download CTT Guidance Note 07 from https://legacy.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/documents/index/guidance for further details.
